HTC switches to catchup mode as sales fall

HTC will attempt to regain lost ground on rivals Samsung and Apple and budget Chinese startups by expanding its range of cheaper phones as it fires “two cylinders” simultaneously.

The struggling Taiwanese company is striving to overturn falling sales, a plummeting share price and market share by shifting its focus from premium smartphones.
Cher Wang, chairwoman of HTC, said: “The problem with us last year was we only concentrated on our flagship. We missed a huge chunk of the mid-tier market.”
