MTN to appeal against termination rate cuts

MTN Group has announced plans to start a legal challenge against the recently announced cuts in termination rates, Reuters reported. Zunaid Bulbulia, the head of MTN South Africa, said in a statement that the firm has exhausted all avenues of engagement with the regulator Icasa on this matter and is left with no alternative but to pursue its legal options. MTN wants Icasa to remove the regulations, which include a 50 percent cut in call termination rates. Vodacom also announced plans to appeal the cuts, which it said could cost it as much as USD 90 million in the coming year.
