School celebrates safer internet day

Pupils at a village school near Ashbourne have been learning about safe internet use as part of the UK-wide Safer Internet Day.

Carsington and Hopton CE (A) primary school joined hundreds of other organisations across the country in promoting the safe and responsible use of technology.
To celebrate the day, both the infant and junior classes had classes of learning activities and lessons surrounding how the internet is used and how to make sure that surfers stay safe online.
This year's theme was ‘let’s create a better internet together’, offering the opportunity to focus on both the creative things that children and young people are doing online, as well as the role that everyone plays in helping to create a better internet.
Headteacher Peter Johnston said: “As technology continues to develop at a rapid pace we need to ensure our education keeps up with this.
"Our children need to be well-informed so they become safe and responsible citizens in the virtual world.”
Safer Internet Day is organised in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre (SIC) to promote the safe and responsible use of online technology and mobile phones for children and young people.
SIC is a partnership of three leading charitable organisations, Childnet International, the South West Grid for Learning and the Internet Watch Foundation.
These organisations are committed to working to make a safer and better internet.
