The first press shots of HTC’s new flagship smartphone have been leaked, confirming that the device will feature a dual-lens camera and be available in gold.
The struggling electronics manufacturer has sent out invitations to an event presumed to be the phone’s official launch on 25 March, but as ever, @evleaks (a reliable source of leaked images) has revealed the gadget ahead of time.
Visually, the phone is very similar to the HTC One, featuring the same BoomSound speakers located at the top and bottom of the device to offer stereo sound in landscape mode.
Alongside the dual camera setup (which will reportedly allow pictures to be refocused after they’ve been taken) the other major change is the disappearance of capacitive buttons. Instead the back, home, and options button appear at the bottom of the touchscreen itself.
Previously leaks have suggested that the updated One (which has been variously called the M8, One 2, One+ and HTC Two) will feature a 5-inch screen with a 1440x2560 resolution, quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM running Android 4.4 KitKat.
HTC will be hoping the updated One will boost their presence in the high end market. Their most recent financial reports released this January revealed that sales had fallen by 42.46 per cent in December.
The company also announced this week that they would be offering users free fixes for broken screens on the One, One Max and One Mini in the US as part of bundle of perks meant to attract (and hold on to) customers.
“There is a need to make sure that that money spent to buy these premium devices goes further. That the phones are taken care of. That customers are taken care of,” said the company.
