Apple’s iPhone is one of the most desirable brands in most parts of Africa, and while South Africa has a number of authorized resellers of iPhone and Apple products, it has been revealed by Rutgers-Jan Van Spaandonk of Core Group Africa that Nigeria will get authorized iPhone resellers in April. 
This effectively means that all iPhones in NIgeria have either been imported by third parties, or are fake units. Core Group is the only authorised distributor of Apple products in Africa, including Nigeria. Having an unauthorized iPhone doesn’t afford users the opportunity to claim repairs or replacements under its warranty conditions.
According to Apple’s Nigerian website, other devices such as the iPod music player and iPad tablet, are officially available through authorized resellers, but using the “Locate branch” option for Lagos will reveal that none of them are authorized to sell iPhones.
According to The Vanguard, Spaandonk said that “from April, any Nigerian who purchases any brand of iPhone, from authorized dealers, would not only get and enjoy the warranty on his or her phone, but would have such phones recorded against his name.”
It was also revealed that Stanbic IBTC users will be able to acquire a new iPhone in April at zero balance and only pay in 12 months.
“It is adopting this vendor financing collaboration with the bank, taking a cue from America where not only banks but mobile operators sign pacts with device makers with the aim of getting users to obtain them at affordable rates,” The Vanguard wrote.
