Mariah Carey visits Nigeria, leaves for Uganda in private jet + Photos

Over the weekend, Mariah Carey paid a quick visit to Nigeria where she performed at Access Bank’s annual Christmas gig on Saturday, December 14, 2013).
The night was also dedicated the bank’s outgoing Managing Director Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede. Carey performed a number of songs including her 2005 radio hit ‘It’s like that‘.
The US singer who arrived Nigeria on Saturday was out of the country by 6:10 this morning (Sunday December 15, 2013). The mother of two boarded a private jet heading for Uganda.

The eagerly anticipated Guaranty Trust Bank End of the Year party held last night, and it lived up to the bar, except for one minor flop: Wizkid....
Social media was littered by fans who complained about the Star Boy artiste’s performance, who were disappointed because the organizers had saved the best for the last.

Wizkid had come on stage in a stoned state, clearly not in the right frame of mind to perform, with fans saying he did “more talking than singing”, and that “people stopped dancing when he came on”.
The other performers were on point with the likes of Flavour, Wande Coal, and Olamide giving the crowd a swell time, up until Wizkid came up.
The organizers were obviously not pleased with Wizzy’s performance, and the Star Boy reportedly worsening matters by getting in a fight back stage with Wande Coal.
There seems to be a lot going on in Wizkid’s life at the moment, as many blogs report he has broken up with girlfriend Tani Omotayo, and last night’s horrible episode may be in some way related to it.
Whatever it is, we hope he gets his act together, and soon.

BREAKING NEWS: ASUU Officially Calls Off Strike

According to the report reaching TON from Minna, Niger State capital, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called off its 5-month strike.
The decision to suspend the strike was made after a marathon meeting held at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State on Monday.
After a protracted debate, the Federal Government and ASUU reached a compromise during a negotiation brokered by the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar few days ago.
No official comments have been received by the moment.

Cristiano Ronaldo Opens Museum In His Own Honour

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has opened a museum in his honour, which he said has extra room to be filled by future trophies. 
Ronaldo, 28, is currently on the three-man shortlist to be named the Ballon d'Or winner for a second time.
"It's a special day, I don't want to mention specific ones" he said. "All I want is to win more and if the Ballon d'Or comes, there is extra room here."
The museum in his native Madeira exhibits more than 125 awards.
Ronaldo won the prestigious 2008 Ballon d'Or title, formerly known as the Fifa World Player of the year title, while with Manchester United.
Before his six-year spell at Old Trafford ended with a then-world record £80m transfer to Real Madrid in 2009, he won three Premier Leagues, one Champions League, one FA Cup, two League Cups and one Fifa Club World Cup.
His success has continued in Spain, where he won the Copa del Rey in 2010-11 and La Liga in 2011-12 under now Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
The Portugal international opened his museum, which occupies the ground floor of a five-storey building, in front of a frenzy of reporters and fans.
"Here is the evidence of what I have won, no one will take it away from here and these were things I wanted to share with my fans, show them what I have already achieved," he said speaking from the island which is approximately 250 miles off the southern coast of Portugal.
The first piece on display dates back to when Ronaldo was eight and top-scored in a tournament with his boyhood club Andorinha.
It also contains mementos from his senior playing career, including two Golden Boot awards won for being European football's top scorer.
Ronaldo is competing with Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery to be named the 2013 Ballon d'Or recipient, with the winner to be revealed at a ceremony in Zurich on 13 January.

US Blasts Mariah Carey For Performing In Nigeria: Calling Us A Country Known For 'Terror, Death And

Seems the US media are not comfortable with Mariah Carey performing at a country they described as the "center of the world’s email financial crimes". 
A popular news site, Radar Online, had this to say on the performance;

Mariah Carey proudly posted a pic of herself in a slinky yellow dress and wrote, “Backstage in Nigeria” on Saturday.

But maybe the songbird should have done some homework before agreeing to the gig?

Her show was at Access Bank’s Christmas Party which was also a farewell bash for the bank’s managing director.

And while Access Bank is a reputable financial institution, should Carey have known a few basics about the African nation before taking the paycheck?

Ironically — given that she was performing for bankers — it seems Carey wasn’t aware Nigeria is well-known as the center of the world’s email financial crimes! Nigeria is even part of the name — as in “Nigerian 411 Scams.”

Nigeria is also, according to the United Nations, the hub of human trafficking as “a source, destination and transit country.

AND, just for good measure, there are mass killings going on in two Nigerian states right now, and according to Human Rights Watch, the violence is being ignored by federal authorities.
